Topic: Best Linuxu distribution – WEP crack

What is the best distribution for cracking WEP. I’m thinking about Mandriva 2007.1 or Ubuntu7.04. Will it work?
One more question: Which applications do I need to get the WEP key? Just aireplay and airodump?

Ubuntu 6.06 and Backtrack is fine for me.

Ubuntu 6.10 with hostAP can’t do packet injection. With madwifi-ng drivers (distribution 6.10 and 7.10) you can’t do packet injection neither – answer = It won’t be so easy as with 6.06 🙂 which works with madwifi’s injection with not trouble.

Yes. The Aircrack-ng includes everything that’s needed.

I use ubuntu 7.04 and the only problem (I have noticed) is that for monitor mode I need to do this:

wlanconfig ath0 create wlandev wifi0 wlanmode monitor
wlanconfig ath create wlandev wifi0 wlanmode monitor
ifconfig ath0 up

…………………………………or:

Pro 802.11 headers:
echo ‘801’ > /proc/sys/net/ath0/dev_type

Pro Prism2 headers:
echo ‘802’ > /proc/sys/net/ath0/dev_type

Pro Radiotap headers:
echo ‘803’ > /proc/sys/net/ath0/dev_type

Pro Atheros Descriptors:
echo ‘804’ > /proc/sys/net/ath0/dev_type
