while scanning the area with Kismet, some detected APs (?) are gouped into the "Data Netwoks" group. Can someone explain how arre these different and what does it mean?

Hi. They are data links. This may include backbones, traffic light links traffic camras, meteo sensors and oter static stations. Everything that seemsto be comunicating only one-way or with an unknown protocol
Do these networks use ‘normal’ topology… are there Access Points and cients connected to them? How is the process of conecting to suchh network different fom standart procedure?

The topology is unimportant when it comese to passive sniffing itself or redirecting.
