Topic: Ubuntu Dell 1501 Aircrack problem

Help i get this error. Am i doing this correct? I DID install aircrack using ‘sudo apt-get install aircrack-ng’

root@alan-laptop:~# sudo airodump-ng eth0
ioctl(SIOCSIWMODE) failed: Operation not supported

ARP linktype is set to 1 (Ethernet) – expected ARPHRD_IEEE80211
or ARPHRD_IEEE80211_PRISM instead.  Make sure RFMON is enabled:
run ‘ifconfig eth0 up; iwconfig eth0 mode Monitor channel <#>’
Sysfs injection support was not found either.

root@alan-laptop:~# ifconfig eth0 up; iwconfig eth0 mode Monitor channel
Error for wireless request "Set Mode" (8B06) :
SET failed on device eth0 ; Operation not supported.

Hi, Airodump works with wireless cards no ethernet!. You forgot specify your hardware (or chipset) but I think is ethternet.

Thanks, I have a WIFI card and i was following a tutorial at mediakey.dk/~cc/hack-wireless-network-crack/ and i copied the commands there. Could you give me the commands i should use normally for WIFI i use wlan0 i also tried all the commands with wlan0 instead of eth0 my computer is a Dell inspiron 1501 laptop running Ubuntu hardy heron.

Try airmon – this app shows: Monitor mode supported or Not.
